Injection Options and Demos

ENBREL is injected just under the skin with a needle in a part of the body that is easy to reach. ENBREL should be injected in the front of the middle thighs, the stomach (avoiding the 2-inch area around the belly button), or the outer area of the upper arms. With the design of the Enbrel® (etanercept) SureClick® autoinjector, you'll never even have to see the needle.

Before starting ENBREL, tell your doctor if you think you have an infection, or if you have a fever, cough, flu-like symptoms, or an open sore. Do not start ENBREL if you have any kind of infection. While taking ENBREL, call your doctor immediately if you have an infection as ENBREL can increase your risk of infection.

Multiple injection options

ENBREL offers the convenience and flexibility of multiple administration options. Choose the method you are most comfortable with or one that is recommended by your doctor:

  • Enbrel® SureClick® 50-mg/mL autoinjector
  • ENBREL single-use prefilled syringe
  • ENBREL 25-mg multi-use vial free-hand method
  • ENBREL 25-mg vial adapter method

Step-by-step injection demos

You or a caregiver should receive training from your health care professional for the first injection of ENBREL in the doctor's office. After the training, you can self-inject ENBREL in the comfort of your home. Click below to view step-by-step instructions.

Injection site reactions such as redness, rash, swelling, itching, or bruising may occur. These symptoms usually go away within 3 to 5 days. If you experience these reactions and they don't go away or get worse, call your doctor.

Patients can inject ENBREL using a 50 mg/mL prefilled autoinjector.
